Song thrush
manu-kai-hua-rakau · Turdus philomelos
Found in gardens, at bush edges and along tracks, repeating each phrase as it sings.
Story
Brought from England for sentimental reasons and released widely from 1867. Orchardists soon regretted it. It is still common, though blackbirds outnumber it about ten to one in most habitats.
Behaviour
Sings from treetops, mainly from May to November, and repeats each phrase two or three times. Feeds on the ground on worms and snails, and smashes snail shells against a stone with a flick of its head.
